Record Statistics
After recording is over the following information is displayed in the Wave Statistics field:
- Max Volume is the maximum volume of recording given in decibel form The volume values range from –70db (soft) to 0db (loud).
- Average Volume represents the average volume of the entire recording. This is a good measure of the overall loudness of the recording.
- Max Signal is the absolute maximum sample value of the recording. The value 0% signifies the absence of signal (silence) and the value 100% signifies maximum possible signal.
- Clipping The warning of possible clipping appears in this field, if the amplitude of the sampled signal gets too high, such that a 16-bit (8-bit) number is not large enough to represent it. In this case the signal is clipped-cut off at the maximum value. Clipping can cause clicks, pops, and distortion of the original sound. In the event of Attention CLIPPING warning, lower record level and repeat recording. See also Troubleshooting.
Clipping
The dynamic range of your recording depends of two factors: volume of MIDI playback — MIDI slider and record level — Rec slider. In order to maximize the dynamic range of your recording, you should set both as high as possible without clipping the signal. Try to define the optimal relationship of levels for your sound card and then correct it for new opened MIDI file if it necessary.
To change a record level:
- Click and drag the Rec slider.
To change volume of MIDI playing:
- Click and drag the MIDI slider.
