Magnification Menu
Fixed Target (Hotkey: Ctrl+F)
Upon selection of "Fixed Target" menu option (or its toolbar button, or a hotkey) mouse pointer will be followed by a window that shows what is currently being magnified. Simple mouse click will lock Magnifier's target to the current position, regardless the later mouse movements. To toggle back to standard magnification mode where target follows the mouse pointer, select the same option again.
This feature is useful when editing small on-screen objects because one can watch a portion of the screen the way one is used to, just enlarged (mouse moving around, no scrolling background).
Precise (Hotkey: Ctrl+P)
This menu option activates precise magnifying mode, where pixels are just enlarged into squares which size depends on the magnification level settings. This mode is suitable for pixel-precise editing of various graphics, from photos to Web or application user interfaces.
This option is available through the toolbar button as well.
Smooth (Hotkey: Ctrl+S)
Activates smooth magnifying mode, where application tries to improve the quality of the magnified image with algorithm specified in Smoothing Type submenu. This mode is suitable for reading small fonts and zooming in small pictures or picture details.
This option is available through the toolbar button as well.
Smoothing Type
Submenu with selection of smoothing (resampling) algorithms. The selected algorithm becomes active whenever the smooth magnifying mode is selected. Available options are:
- Simple
- Linear
- Cosine
- Bicubic
- Lanczos
- Mitchell
Please note that advanced smoothing algorithms combined with high refresh rates may significantly slow down your computer, proportionally with the size of the Magnifier window. In such cases, try either with simpler algorithms (positioned more to the top of this submenu) or reduce the refresh rate or resize the Magnifier window to a smaller portion of the screen.
Level
Submenu with selection of magnification levels, from 2 to 32 times the original image size.
This option is available through the toolbar slider as well, even for levels that are not included in the Level submenu.
Refresh Rate
This submenu determines how often a magnified image will be redrawn. Faster refresh rate (smaller sample time) delivers quicker response but consumes more processing power, so try to find a balance suitable for your needs and your computer system. Precise magnifying or simple smoothing should run without delays with the fastest refresh rates on any computer.
Magnify Own Window (Hotkey: Ctrl+O)
When this option is turned off, Desktop Magnifier will not "see" its own window, so it will not magnify itself. In this case, Magnifier will not display any other window that is using alpha blending (transparency) as well.
Please note that this option may not function on some older versions of Microsoft Windows due to slight differences in their API functions.
