Client

Connecting a client

In order to create a connection, you need the following:

  • Both client and server must work on the same port. The default port is 20002 for RPC and 22177 for NPC. If you did not change the port settings using the OLFolders Administrator, no additional settings are required.
  • Client and server must not block the access via a firewall.
  • If you want to change the settings, you can change the port using OLFolders adminsitrator application.

At the client side, you can give all parameters in the connection.

Protocol As protocol you can use the following:
  • tcp
  • spx
  • npc

If you do not set the protocol, it is using RPC via tcp/ip

Server Name, IP, URL or knot/number of your server
Port
Portnumber or 0 for automatic assignment. If a port number is given it must be the same as at the server. You can connect to different servers with different port numbers.

Connecting with TCP

If a name server is available you can just enter the server name, otherwise enter the ip address. In some cases, a connection by name can be broken after a while, probably íf the server is disconnected from the net for short time and gets itself a different ip address. In this case use a static IP address for the server and connect using the ip address.

Options

Protokol 2.3

Traditionally, OLFolders works by sending small amount of data to and from the server many times. In a long distance connection this slows down the connection because of long network latency -- it takes too long until a packet arrives at the other side. Protocol 2.3 sends large blocks of data but reduces the number of packages. A message is transfered all at once including all attachments. If you are working with many messages with large attachmetns, this might be slower than normal, but usually protocol 2.3 is faster than previosu protocols, even in intranet.

Text conversion between OL97/98/2000/2002 and 2003

Outlook 2003 is not able to display messages which do not contain a rich text body, messages with only plain text or html body are ignored. In this case enable this option, this will convert all message bodies into rtf if the rtf part is missing.

Use local email account

Enables you to use the local email account with OLFolders as default store. In this case you do not need a local pst file. Most of the protocol for sending eals is implemented, however sending is only allowed through the main email account and in behalf of the other account.
