User Management

OLFolders needs user accounts in order to work. User accounts can be imported from the NT directory if OLFolders runs on NT 4.0 or later, import will not work in Windows 95/98/ME.

Import from Windows NT

In all NT based versions of Windows, users can be imported from the user management or the active directory. Click on import and select NT, OLFolders automatically creates all user accounts with empty password. In this case the windows password for this user is choosen. In order to active one of the users, double click the user, eventually add a password and select which profiles this user is able to use.

Automatic import from Windows NT

By default, the import is done automatically if any user logs on with any given Windows account. If the server receives a logon with unknown user account, it asks Windows if this username/password is a known username/password pair. If Windows confirms, that this user account is correct, the user is automatically added to the OLFolders user management. This works in all versions of Windows including Windows 95/98/ME.

Warning: In Windows XP home or Windows XP professional with simple file sharing enable, all unknown user accounts with any password are accepted by windows as normal users. If you are running Windows XP and have the simple file shareing mode enabled, you should disable the option "Automatically log on user" in Options. Be aware that also everybody is able to access your hard disk with any given unkown user name.
