Resizing Pictures

Resize picture(s) to

When resizing pictures with Photo Gadget Pro you can choose one of four available preset sizes, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 240x320 (320x240) or you can set any custom picture size you want. If you want to resize your pictures to a custom size, choose Custom picture size option and type in new size in pixels.

Note regarding 240x320 preset size: If you select more than one picture for resizing and choose 240x320 from the list the program will pay attention to each picture's orientation and resize it accordingly, landscape pictures to 320x240 and portrait to 240x320. If you want all pictures to fit to only one of those two sizes regardless their orientation then use Custom picture size option instead.

Keep aspect ratio

When this option is enabled Photo Gadget Pro will make sure the original picture proportions are maintained within the selected new size. So, if you are resizing a picture that is 1200x900 (4:3 proportion) to 600x400 (3:2 proportion) then the picture will actually be resized to 533x400 (4:3 proportion).

Do not enlarge if smaller

When this option is enabled Photo Gadget Pro won't enlarge your pictures. For example if you have a picture that is 400x300 among those selected for resizing to 800x600 that picture will not be resized. Increasing the size of a picture causes a loss in its quality, but if you still want to do that simply disable this option.

Output file options

JPG quality

Four output picture qualities are available for JPG files: low (highest compression), medium, high and best (lowest compression).

If you enable Max file size option you will be able to set the target size for output JPG files. For example, this may be useful when you are preparing pictures for uploading to web services that maintain a limit on acceptable file size. There are two important things to note about this option. One is that if you want to control output file size then you can not control the picture quality so for large resolution pictures and restricted file size you can end up with poor quality output. The other thing to note is speed of processing pictures that will be significantly slower when this option is enabled because the program has to try different levels of JPG compression to get a file size that is close to the target you set.

Destination folder

For destination folder you can choose a custom folder (by default the program will use "...\My Documents\My Pictures\Photo Gadget Pro") or the same as source folder (in other words the folder where the picture's original file is stored).

File name

If you choose new file name option then the program will take the original picture's file name and add a size suffix (e.g. "_800x600") to it. For example, if the original picture's file name was "London panorama 12.jpg" and new picture size is 800x600 then the program will save the resized version as "London panorama 12_800x600.jpg". However, if you choose the same as original option, then there will be no change in the original picture's file name. In that case if the resized version is going to be saved to a folder that also happens to be the one where the original picture file is stored then the original picture file will be overwritten and lost.
