Inpaint Selection

Basic idea and steps:

Contrary to compose a object into background, inpainting operation try to remove/erase a unwanted object from bacground. The following figure will help you understand the basic idea:

From above sample, we know there are 3 basic steps of inpaint:

  • Select the object in base layer (only support inpaint on base layer).
  • Call menu 'Selection-Inpaint Selection', set parameters, and click 'OK'
  • Select none.

How it works?

In fact, the inpainting function is the automatical version of 'camera paint tool', which try to find patch around the selection and paste it to replace the original object.

Repeat Inpaiting

In many case, inpaint once can not get the best result. There maybe artifact make the result seems 'not real'. You can repeat select and inpaintiong until getting a acceptable result.
