Say This Instead

The 'say this instead' feature allows you to change the way Me Speaking reads text or pronounce words.

Before Me Speaking reads text from the clip board it will compare all the words in the 'FIND' list against all the words in the text its about to read. When it finds a match it will replace the matching word(s) in the text with the word(s) in the 'SAY THIS' list.

This can be useful in many situations. You may want certain words pronounced differently or certain words replaced with others while listening to a story. To use the 'say this instead' feature left click on FILE, then left click on SAY THIS INSTEAD, the screen above will be shown.

The replacement word(s) list has 100 search and replace entries which are divided into 5 pages. The 5 page buttons on the bottom right of the screen are used to select the pages. Me Speaking will look at the list starting from the first entry on page 1 to the last entry on page 5.

Example

this is a test. my name is michael. my dog is called rex. it's a friendly dog. the end.

If the text above was copied to the clip board and you clicked play, or auto read clip board was activated Me Speaking would say this instead -

hello. my name is mike. my pet is called rex. it is a friendly pet. good bye, have a nice day.

Entering and Deleting the text

Click on the text box you want to edit and use your keyboard to enter or delete the text. You may also right click in the text boxes and use CUT, COPY, PASTE .

Save and exit or exit without saving

To save the changes you have made and exit the 'say this instead' screen, click SAVE. To exit without making any changes, click CLOSE.

The changes you made will take affect the next time text is copied to the clip board.

NOTE

The 'say this instead' list will not alter the original document. Me Speaking always takes a copy of the text you want to read. The original text will not be altered in any way.

Save as Text file

Me Speaking can save the altered text as a new text file. This can be very useful for altering the wording of stories to suit you. If the example above was saved, the new text file would look like this -

hello. my name is mike. my pet is called rex. it is a friendly pet. good bye, have a nice day.

The new text file can be opened and spoken with Me Speaking or it can be opened with any text editor and viewed as normal.
